  • The Chevrolet Theatre, originally the Oakdale Theatre, is situated on 30 park-like acres between Hartford and New Haven. The Chevrolet Theatre’s innovative design has garnered raves from artists and audiences alike, making it the premier year-round property in Connecticut. The theatre opened in 1954 with 1,200 seats under a tent in the middle of an alfalfa field. In1972, the tent was replaced with a wooden dome that accommodated 3,200 seats. A rotating stage was located in the center, creating a theater in the round. The theatre played host to numerous known acts, including Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Beach Boys, Tom Jones, Diana Ross, and John Sebastian. In late 1995 the theatre was transformed again to a year-round 5,000-seat performing arts center. The project changed the facility from a theater-in-the-round to an end-stage, amphitheater arrangement. The new 120,000-square-foot theater was completed in 1996. It is now the largest theater in Connecticut.
